The United Kingdom, France and Ukraine will work on a ceasefire plan to present in the United States, said Prime Minister, following the confrontation of the Volodymyr Zelenskyy White House with Donald Trump.

Sir Keir Starmer, who visited Washington on Thursday, said that he thought Trump wanted “lasting peace” between Russia and Ukraine.

He also declared that Europe was in a “moment of true fragility” and that it would not trust the Word of Vladimir Putin.

Referring to the argument in the oval office of the White House Thursday between Trump, the US vice-president JD Vance and the Ukrainian president Mr. Zelenskyy, the Prime Minister said that it had put him “uncomfortable”.

“No one wants to see this,” he said on BBC Sunday with Laura Kuensberg.

He added: “We have to find a way so that we can all work together. Because in the end, we had three years of bloody conflict. Now we have to arrive at this lasting peace.”

The Prime Minister said he was in his office when White House match started to be broadcast.

“Obviously, you know, there is a lot of tension,” he said. “The cameras were on.”

When Starmer met Zelenskyy: what happened?

Later in the evening, he phoned Mr. Trump and Mr. Zelenskyy, saying that his “driving objective” is to “fill this and bring us back to the central objective”.

The Prime Minister said on Saturday that he had “long enough with President Zelenskyy” before talking to Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron on the phone.

“We have now agreed that the United Kingdom, with France and perhaps one or two others, will work with Ukraine on a plan to stop fighting, then we will discuss this plan with the United States,” he said.

From Mr. Trump, he said: “I am clear in my mind that he wants lasting peace.”

When he was asked why he said, “Because I spoke to him several times. I have to know him. I had vast discussions with him and I believe that his motivation is a lasting peace.”

He added: “If the central question you ask me is to trust Donald Trump when he says he wants a lasting peace? The answer to this question is yes.”

The Prime Minister said he was still putting pressure on an American “security net” on Ukrainian security, adding that he was the subject of an “intense” discussion.

The “components of lasting peace”, he said, include a “strong Ukraine on which to fight, if necessary, to be in a position of strength”.

And he continues a “European element with security guarantees”.

“This is why I tackled this subject on what we would do-and an American security net,” he said.

“This is the package: the three parts must be in place, and that’s what I work hard to bring together.”

When asked if he would trust Vladimir Putin, Sir Keir said: “Well, no, I wouldn’t trust Putin, that’s why I want a safety guarantee.

“I would not trust him not to come back, because he has proven that he will come back. He has already done so and we know what his ambitions are.”

Sir Ed Davey, chief of the Liberal Democrats, said that his party would support the sending of British troops to Ukraine as a soldiers of peace in the event that a “credible” agreement is concluded.

Conservative chief Kemi Badenoch said that European nations must “ensure that America does not disembark”, adding: “If we are all trained in an escalation, America will finally be trained.”

She described Volodymyr Zelenslyy as a “hero” and said that her heart “had gone” to her during the argument on the camera in the White House.

“I looked at him and I couldn’t believe what was going on,” she said. “He was humiliated.”

Such “difficult conversations” should not occur in front of the cameras, she added.
