Nairobi, Kenya – A British national died Kenya After being hit by a government vehicle which was part of the president’s procession.
Edgar Charles Frederick, 79, was killed Thursday following the incident as president William Ruto Motorcade has made its way to a public commitment in the capital, Nairobi.
The driver of the government vehicle was arrested and released later on cash guarantee, police spokesman Michael Mudiri said on Friday.
A British High Commissioner spokesman said that he “bound the authorities.”
The accident caused indignation on social networks when the Kenyans wondered why the president’s motor drivers led at high speed on a highly frequented road.
Videos shared on social networks have shown that the victim lying on the Tarmac with strong bleeding on his head. The vehicle that hit him did not stop after the accident.
The presidential procession, often made up of dozens of vehicles, is trained at high speed for security reasons, according to the police.
Mudiri told the BBC that Frederick had visited Kenya to see his sister and his nephew who are residents of the country. He said that a post-mortem would take place.
