Peñas Blancas, Costa Rica – Costa Rica and Panama Coordinate to accelerate the migrant transit in southern direction through their country along the same road which carried hundreds of thousands of people in the north in recent years, officials announced on Monday.

Last week, migrants towards the south rose aboard boats in a Panamanian port on the Caribbean Sea to be transported to the border of Panama-Colombian where they could continue south and avoid a crossing of perfidable land of the Darien Gap.

Venezuelan Bárbara Somayor stopped to buy his bus ticket at the border post.

“I think it would be better if they offered us air transport, because boats present a risk for adults and children,” she said. “But, well, you have to take the risk.”

Some migrants southern in the past few weeks have complained to be arrested by the authorities in both countries when they were trying to make their own way.

Reverse migration comes at the same time as Panama And Costa Rica agreed to receive several hundred migrants, largely from Asian nations, expelled by the United States. On Saturday, a group of lawyers filed a petition with the Inter -American Commission on Human Rights requesting protective measures to safeguard the rights of the migrants held.
