Peñas Blancas, Costa Rica – Costa Rica and Panama Coordinate to accelerate the migrant transit in southern direction through their country along the same road which carried hundreds of thousands of people in the north in recent years, officials announced on Monday.

The security ministers of the two countries gathered on Monday in Peñas Blancas, a border post between Nicaragua and Costa Rica where migrants in southern steel will rise from bus to a Costa Rican government at the Panama border.

From there, Panama Busra to his province of Darien, who borders Colombia.

The Costaorian Minister of Security, Mario Zamora, said that the effort will focus on Colombians, Venezuelans and Ecuadorians who will try to reach their country. He said that by organizing transportation, they hope to protect migrants from human traffickers.

His Panamanian counterpart, Frank Abrego, said that the idea is to offer a more regulated transit through Costa Rica and Panama.

On Monday, small groups of migrants carrying backpacks crossed the Nicaraguan border in the Costa Rica, released immigration and embarked the buses in southern direction.

Last week, migrants towards the south rose aboard boats in a Panamanian port on the Caribbean Sea to be transported to the border of Panama-Colombian where they could continue south and avoid a crossing of perfidable land of the Darien Gap.

Venezuelan Bárbara Somayor stopped to buy his bus ticket at the border post.

“I think it would be better if they offered us air transport, because boats present a risk for adults and children,” she said. “But, well, you have to take the risk.”

Some migrants southern in the past few weeks have complained to be arrested by the authorities in both countries when they were trying to make their own way.

Reverse migration comes at the same time as Panama And Costa Rica agreed to receive several hundred migrants, largely from Asian nations, expelled by the United States. While some have agreed to return to their country of origin, others have been detained while host nations and humanitarian organizations try to understand what to do with it.

Some are underway held in a Darian camp in Panama This had already received migrants north. Those detained there are now complaining about difficult conditions, lack of information and without access to legal advice.

On Saturday, a group of lawyers filed a petition with the Inter -American Commission on Human Rights requesting protective measures to safeguard the rights of the migrants held.
