Former Australian cricket player Stuart Macgill was found guilty of participating in the cocaine supply in Sydney.

He had pleaded not guilty to a single accusation of having participated in the supply of a prohibited drug.

The jurors heard the old 54 -year -old spin bowler – who played 44 tests for Australia And took 208 counters – was a regular cocaine user and bought the medication from a dealer for several years.

Macgill admitted to having used cocaine and presenting the brother of his partner Marino Sotiopoulos to his drug trafficker, identified in court only as “person A”.

He maintained that his involvement was limited to the introduction of his Sydney restaurant in April 2021.

Jurors of the Southern New Wales District Court have heard that the illicit exchange of 330,000 Australian dollars (£ 160,000) for a kilogram of cocaine was struck.

The jury eliminated Macgill from the participation in the commercial supply of the drug.

But he was found guilty of the alternative accusation of having knowingly participated in the offer of a prohibited drug.

He will be sentenced in May.

The former leg launcher made the headlines in 2021 when he was kidnapped, assaulted and threatened with a weapon before being released. Southern New Wales police have arrested and charged four men in connection with the incident.

Macgill’s international career from 1988 to 2008 was widely overshadowed by the Australian compatriot, Shane Warne, who is second on the list of main bearers in test crickets.
