A missing mother-A three was found alive six days after having crushed his car in a ditch in what the authorities call an “incredible testimony of his desire to live”.
Brieonna Cassell, 41, was on the way to visit a friend in the region of Wheatfield and Demotte in the northwest Indiana Last Wednesday, when she disappeared, according to the Sheriff’s Bureau of Newton County.
The woman would have been sleepy behind the wheel and left the road leading near the small town of Brook, about 80 miles south of Chicago.
Cassell crashed into a “very large deep ditch” which could not be seen from the road, his father Delmar Caldwell told ABC7 Chicago told. He added that passers -by could not hear his cries for help.
She became trapped and was largely unable to move inside the vehicle, while her mobile phone was short of battery.
“She suffered from atrocious pain. She was crying for help. She could hear cars pass, but they couldn’t see her from the road, “added her father.
The Cassell family joined the rescue teams – made up of local EMS services, fire and air – and had looked for the mother for six days when Johnny Martinez, who was doing nearby drainage equipment, a vehicle spotted on Tuesday, the sheriff office announced on Tuesday.
Martinez contacted his supervisor Jeremy Vanderwell, who also happens to be a local firefighters in the neighboring city of Morocco.
The authorities said that Martinez and Vanderwall had checked the vehicle and found Cassell, the only occupant of the vehicle, conscious and speaking.
“Is it you?” I said, “Your family is looking for you. I said, “There are messages everywhere on social networks. I said, “I can’t believe you’ve been a long time ago,” Vanderwall told the local press station.
Cassell would have told Vanderwell that she had plunged a green sweater into a ditch to obtain water to try to avoid dehydration.
“You know, he picked up the water in the shirt, and she would suck the water from her shirt,” Vanderwall told CBS News. “His mode of survival was strange, you know, his willingness to live.”
Cassell was rescued and raised air at Chicago hospital, said the Sheriff’s office. Her family said she had suffered serious injuries to her legs – that they claim to be able to lose – with her coasts and wrists.
A fundraising was created by the daughter of Cassell, Lexi, to pay for her medical bills. The GoFundme, which had collected about $ 2,000 from its $ 15,000 target by Wednesday morning, also said that the legs and the Cassell wrist were “very broken”.
The woman was placed in the USI and is expected to undergo surgery on Wednesday, the family said.
“It will be a long way to recovery,” Caldwell told journalists on Tuesday. Cassell’s mother Kim Brown added, “I can’t wait to kiss and kiss her, which I probably can’t do.”
The Sheriff of Newton County, Shannon Cothran, congratulated the rescuers of Cassell as “heroes” and congratulated the resilience of the victim.
“You may have seen the story of an accident victim that survived for almost six days before being discovered,” Cothran said in a statement on Tuesday. “It alone is an incredible testimony of his desire to live. We are grateful for all the wishes that have sent its way. »»
He continued: “Today, I watched three fire services from different volunteers come together as one, working transparently towards the common goal of helping a victim of the accident. Their teamwork, their skills and their dedication are really inspiring. »»
