The United States has increased pressure on Russia to accept a 30-day ceasefire proposal to end “all hostilities” with Ukraine.
Marco Rubio, the American Secretary of State, urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept the truce “so that people stop dying, so the bullets will stop flying”.
Speaking at a press conference in Ireland after Interviews between American and Ukrainian officials On Tuesday, he said that there was “no military solution to the conflict” and warned: “If (Russia) says no, that will tell us a lot about their goals and what their state of mind is.”
Mr. Rubio also revealed that there had been “conversations” during the meeting on territorial concessions to Russia – something from the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy marked a “red line” in the “fight for independence” of his country.
Trump’s first diplomat said the United States has recognized the need for a potential peace agreement to include terms that would dissuade the Kremlin from a new assault.
He told journalists: “Each country of the world has the right to defend itself and no one can challenge this, so it will certainly have to be part of the conversation.”
Mr. Rubio also said that Kyiv had clearly indicated that the negotiations would not be “not only at the end of the war”, but after prisoners of war, as well as thousands of Ukrainian children illegally expelled to Russia.
“They need to recover children,” he added.
Meanwhile, in his first comments to the camera since Tuesday talks in Saudi Arabia, Mr. Zelenskyy praised discussions as “constructive” and said that he wanted to use the potential 30 -day respite as a chance to write a permanent peace plan.
However, Russia’s response so far was without obligationWith the Kremlin saying that he needed additional information from the United States and that she “did not want to be ahead of”.
The potential snack points on a long -term agreement include possible territorial concessions and if European troops could be sent to Ukraine to underlie a peace agreement – something that Moscow rejected as a potential “act of war”.
On the question of concessions, Mr. Zelenskyy told a press conference: “We are not going to recognize that the territories occupied by Russian territory. The fact is that our people were fighting for that. Our heroes fought for that, (have) injured (and) killed, many of them.
“This is the most important red line. We will never let anyone forget this crime against Ukraine.”
